more orientalism

I think that is picture portrays a lot of peoples views of the Middle East. Today when someone mentions the Middle East, societies general response is to think of the War in Iraq and all of the other conflicts happening in Israel and Palestine. Usually only negative conotations are associated with the Middle East. I searched "Orientalism in the media," and this picture clearly depicts how the media has control over society and what people think. I agree with hilary. Today whenever someone mentions the "middle east" people tense up. They realize that there are alot of issues going on in the middle east and feel uncomfortable when the issues arises.

I agree with both Alex and Hilary. It is so ridiculous that by simply typing "orientalism in the media", pictures like this come up. When someone types "Americans in the media" you surely won't see a picture such as this. It is arrogant of us 'Westerners' to assume that this is all we need to know about Middle East countries and that we should all assume that they are riddled with issues and problems. But America isn't perfect either!
